Lex McKenzie Fallow Deer

The family farm is in the Apiti district, located in the Northern Manawatu. In 1985, a small portion of our sheep and beef farm was converted into deer which at one stage grew to over 550 breeding hinds.

In 1987, a pure Hungarian buck was purchased with 3 other partners and in 1988 the first pure Danish buck (born in NZ) was purchased. With the use of A.I. this became the nucleus of our herd. Later, bucks from Willowbrook and Pinewood have been introduced and the number of does farmed is now 200, with the concentration on producing trophy bucks.

All deer are farmed at 5000 metres above sea level. TB status C10.
Our goal is to improve the quality of antlers.

A limited number of bucks are available annually both for breeding and trophies.
